After visiting town on his tour of all of the pubs in the Good Beer Guide, Simon Everitt's reviews of some of North Hampshire's watering holes prompted debate amongst members of the public.

The Advertiser got in touch with many of the pubs Simon Everitt visited about their reviews. Here’s what some had to say:

- THE ANGEL INN

“It was good actually, he came in and mentioned his tour to us. He gave us some good feedback, which is always nice to get.”

- Lee Clemens

- SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB

“He came in and ordered a drink, and sat there and watched a bit of TV. He came over at the end and thanked us for the ale, which he said was really nice. We’re definitely pleased for good reviews; we’ve had a few awards through CAMRA over the years.”

- David Rouse

- THE MAIDENHEAD INN AND THE ANGEL

“ The CAMRA afficionado is entitled to his views. However, they seem at odds with the fact that CAMRA members in Basingstoke have chosen The Maidenhead Inn for inclusion in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide for five consecutive years and Lloyds No.1 has been listed in the guide since 2018. Both pubs serve three regular beers and two guest beers at all times.”

The White Hart declined to comment.
