The YMCA in Andover has played a vital role during the Covid-19 pandemic by keeping open a nursery and consequently allowing key workers to stay on the frontline.

That’s why they have been awarded the September Extra Mile award by the Test Valley Business Awards committee.

The nomination, which came from a member of the armed forces, said: “The nursery staff have also supported the community providing essential food boxes, hygiene boxes and found other ways to support individuals in need.

“The YMCA have run socially distanced community activities through the summer to provide safe and exciting activities for families of all ages.

“Overall the girls have gone above and beyond, doing their own jobs in very uncertain times as well as supporting the wider community with activities as well as practical help and support. Always putting others’ needs before their own health or wellbeing.”

The Extra Mile Award was set up by the TVBA committee to recognise those who had put in exceptional work during the pandemic and deserve to be recognised. If you wish to nominate a company (self-nominations are allowed), go to www.tvbawards.org.uk for more details.
