A MAN arrested at the weekend on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm has been released with no further action, police have revealed.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning (November 22) after police found a BB gun on Bell Road, Andover.

But police have now said that he has been released with no charge.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Due to evidence provided to police, he was released with no further action."

Residents reported witnessing armed police officers in the area and Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that officers were called after a man was reportedly seen with a firearm.

A police spokesperson said on Sunday: "We were called at 8.23am today (November 22) to a report of a man seen with a firearm in Bell Road, Andover.

"Officers attended the address and upon carrying out a search found a BB gun.

"A 31-year-old man from Andover has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence."
