THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Basingstoke this weekend, as Storm Bella makes its way across England, and parts of Scotland and Wales.

The warning for high winds comes into place at 3pm on Saturday afternoon (December 26) and lasts until 12pm on Sunday.

Other part of the south and south-west of England have been issued with amber warnings, with gusts of wind of up to 80mph expected.

What to expect:

  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen

People are being advised to consider whether their journey is necessary, and take extra care when travelling on exposed routes.
