DISRUPTION remains on lines between Basingstoke and Farnborough Main stations after a incident involving trespassing on the railway.

The lines are now reopen after temporary closure this afternoon, but delays and cancellations are expected to continue until at least 5.30pm this evening.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway told the Gazette: “This afternoon, British Transport Police dealt with a trespass incident on the railway between Farnborough Main and Basingstoke.

“In the interests of safety, we switched off power to the tracks, with all lines being blocked for a short period.

“The lines have now been reopened, but disruption is expected until 1730 this afternoon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.”

The rail company is reminding passengers delayed by more than 15 minutes to apply for compensation as part of its 'delay repay' system: https://www.southwesternrailway.com/contact-and-help/refunds-and-compensation

SWR also confirmed that a SWR ticket for a cancelled or disrupted service can be used, at no extra cost, on GWR services between Basingstoke/Reading and London Paddington in both directions.

Replacement road transport was also requested to run between Woking and Basingstoke to alleviate travel delays.

The Gazette has contacted British Transport Police for further information on the incident.
