AN ANDOVER charity delivered hampers to families across the town during half-term, aimed at encouraging them to spend time cooking together.

Thanks to a grant from Hampshire County Council and Connect4Communities, volunteers at Kids on Track Andover were able to hit the supermarkets and put together bundles of fresh ingredients, along with recipe cards, to support families in the area.

The small local charity usually provides activity camps during the school holidays for children from the Andover area.

However, this February half-term a total of 64 families received a helpful hamper.

Willa Franks from Kids on Track, said: “We were keen to get our families cooking together and teach the children new skills. The grant from HCC and Connect4Communities was a huge bonus for our charity.

“Each family was given several recipe cards plus all raw ingredients, and the feedback was wonderful from parents and carers telling us how the children had enjoyed cooking a meal for their families, learning new skills and trying new things.

“A huge thank you to our volunteers for giving up their time and coping with below freezing temperatures, and some quite adverse problems such as newbuild houses not yet registered with postcodes!”
