Covid cases are the lowest they have been in north Hampshire since before the second wave last autumn, the latest government data shows.

Eight regions in the Basingstoke and Andover area have recorded Covid cases in the last seven days.

Only 44 cases in total were recorded in the area in the week to April 10, lower than case rates have been since last autumn when the second wave hit.

Only two areas had a rolling rate higher than the national average.

The news comes after lockdown restrictions were eased earlier this week, and saw non-essential shops, outdoor hospitality and indoor gyms reopen.

The area of Kingsclere and Heath End, which had been a hotspot, has seen the number of cases recede in the last week, recording 12 fewer cases.

The vast majority of the region had fewer then three new cases reported in the last week. When numbers are this low, the government suppresses the rolling rate to protect the identities of individuals.
