The owner of Hurstbourne Tarrant Family Shopper store has been awarded this year’s Banksian medal by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Vinoth Kandasamy has been honoured for “going the extra mile” to support the Hurstbourne Tarrant community during the pandemic.

The Village Show Committee usually awards the Banksian medal to whoever obtains the most points in the fruit, flower and vegetables competition.

This year, the committee was unanimous on honouring Mr Kandasamy.

Andy Watson presented Mr Kandasamy with the Banksian medal and commemorative certificates from the Village Show Committee and the Royal Horticultural Society on April 17, Saturday.

Mr Watson said Vinoth, his family and everyone at the Hurstbourne Tarrant Family Shopper, have put themselves on the frontline for their local community.

“They have ensured that food and essentials were available during the worst weeks and months of the Covid crisis.

Their support was greatly appreciated by the Hurstbourne Tarrant community, and for so many, it was a lifeline which meant they didn't have to venture from the safety of their homes.”

Mr Kandasamy said he was very pleased to win the award.

He added: “My family and the Family Shopper team always try to help and support the Hurstbourne Tarrant community.

“We must also recognise all the work done by Mims Edwards, our parish clerk.”
