AN ANDOVER man has been fined after making a fraudulent MOT test certificate for his vehicle.

Gary James McCabe, of Lingdale Close, in Weyhill Road, pleaded guilty to fraud after issuing an MOT test certificate to Andover Car Service Centre on December 11 last year.

The 34-year-old’s vehicle had not undergone an MOT test.

McCabe had been stopped by police in Andover on December 11 and was asked to produce a test certificate for his vehicle by a constable.

He failed to do so and was asked to produce one within seven days. McCabe then issued a MOT certificate without performing the test.

At a hearing at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Magistrates’ Court on June 22, McCabe was given a community order to carry out up to 60 hours’ unpaid work within the next 12 months.

He was also asked to pay £95 to fund victim services and £100 costs, totalling £195.

His guilty plea was considered when magistrates imposed the sentence.
