100mph on A303

TWO MEN caught driving at nearly 100 miles per hour on the A303 near Andover have been fined.

Richard Claydon was caught behind the wheel of his Jaguar travelling at 99 miles per hour on February 26.

He was clocked on the dual carriageway near Longparish.

Appearing before Aldershot Magistrates’ Court last week, the man, from Amersham Road in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, was fined £440 and given six points on his licence. The 56-year-old will also face a bill for £134 in total court costs.

In a separate incident on February 26, Ross James Jenner, of Blacksmith Close in Oakdale, near Newport, Wales, was fined £442 after he was caught driving his Renault at 97 miles per hour on the same stretch of road.

The 42-year-old was also ordered to pay total costs of £134, and was given six points on his licence.

Man faces driving ban

AN ANDOVER man will appear in court next month and could face a driving ban.

Matthew Christopher Birch, of Bedser Square, admitted failing to reply to a police notice.

He was required to identify who was driving a Renault Megane on February 15, who was alleged to have committed a driving offence.

The 29-year-old admitted the charge via the single justice procedure at Aldershot Magistrates’ Court last week, and will appear before the same court on August 26, where magistrates will consider disqualifying him from driving.

Fine for uninsured driver

AN ANDOVER man found driving a Volkswagen Polo without a licence or insurance has been given a fine.

Brandon Thomas Heald, of Highlands Road, was caught driving the 2003-plate car on Shepherds Row on April 2.

He admitted that he was not insured and did not have a licence. The 24-year-old was fined £80 and given six points on his licence. He must also pay costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £34.

Speeder in court

A MAN from Ludgershall caught speeding earlier this year has been sentenced.

Martin Richard Harper, of Craufurd Road, was caught driving a Nissan X-Trail at 36 miles per hour on the A3024 in Southampton on January 2.

The speed limit there is 30 miles per hour.

The 40-year-old was fined £220 and given three points on his licence.

He must also pay costs of £90 and a £34 surcharge.
