The first full weekend with almost all restrictions lifted in England is not to be matched by fitting summer weather.

With nightclubs now allowed to open and masks no longer classed as mandatory, caution is still urged on mixing with large groups of people.

But this weekend, outdoor activities may well be off the menu, with lots of rain imminent and thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon.

It comes after wall to wall sunshine for the last week, with temperatures reaching the mid 30s and the first ever amber extreme heat warning being issued.

Yellow warnings have been issued by the Met Office on Saturday with thunderstorms expected from 5pm to 6pm.

The rest of the day will be very wet and in stark contrast to last weekends baking sun.

Next week

Going into next week, the rain and thunderstorms will subside, with sunny spells on Monday between 7am and 4pm and highs of 24C.

However, the rain it expected to return on Tuesday morning and there will be showers lasting for most of the afternoon until early evening with highs of 20C.
