THE manager of an Andover pizzeria is launching a new weekly cooking workshop for children from next month.

David Jupp, of Fireaway Pizza on Bridge Street, decided he wanted to offer young people in the area the chance to make their very own pizzas in workshop sessions.

He told the Advertiser: “I am a chef by trade, and my daughter loves to cook with me, spaghetti bolognese and things like that, and she’s only four years old!

“I was speaking to customers and floated the idea of a cooking workshop for children, and I got a lot of good feedback.”

For £5 per child, the sessions will see participants create their own pizza to take home.

“We will teach them how to stretch the dough from scratch, and make their own pizza with sauce and topping,” said David.

He said he hopes the sessions will help promote healthier eating among young people in Andover, adding: “All of our ingredients we make on the premises, it’s all fresh. I want to get kids eating fresh food and, you never know, maybe inspire them to become a chef!”

The workshops will begin on Sunday, October 3, from 11am to 2pm.

Fifteen-minute slots will be bookable for children aged five and above on the Fireaway Andover Facebook page from the Monday of each week for the coming weekend.

The first session will be attended by Cllr Iris Andersen, who officially opened the shop back in June.

She said: “I think this is a brilliant idea.”

This isn’t the first time the pizzeria has got involved with the wider community. David said that after the shop provided pizzas for fire crews to mark Emergency Services Day last week, they now give them complimentary pizza on a regular basis.
