YORK-headquartered Portakabin has launched a £1 million showcase visitor centre in North Yorkshire.

The national modular building specialist has opened its latest site accommodation visitor and refurbishment centre at the fast-expanding Sherburn2 business park, at Sherburn-in-Elmet, Selby.

The centre will serve Yorkshire and the Humber and the North East, showcasing the company’s latest products, potential layouts and manufacturing capabilities for modular buildings for hire in the construction sectors.

It is one of ten dedicated site accommodation sites across the UK.

James Pearson, director and general manager of Portakabin Site Accommodation, said: “The Sherburn site was a clear winner for us, central to the region with excellent transport links and a growing base of multi-national companies setting up operations there.

“We completed the build last year and have now moved in our team, who are really looking forward to welcoming our first visitors at a special opening event at the end of this month - Thursday, September 30.

"We’ve had a great response already, from national contractors delivering projects in the region to contractors who are based locally and looking to improve the welfare provision for their teams.

"People are looking forward to meeting up again in person and catching up on the latest developments in the industry.”

The £1 million investment by Portakabin at Sherburn has doubled the size of its operation there to create a purpose-built refurbishment and refit centre, a new workshop and an extensive range of modular building examples to showcase to visitors.

“Our guests at the opening will be able to see the enhanced capacity and scope of our operation in Leeds as well as the latest developments in quality and sustainability for modular buildings,” said James.

“Coupled with the continued investment in our head office and manufacturing facility in York, we have a strong story to tell the industry.”
