GRITTERS were making their way around parts of Hampshire last night as surface temperatures drop below freezing.
Hampshire Country Councils Highways team has confirmed that its gritting team were working hard to ensure roads remain safe and were out gritting last night Sunday, November 21.
Gritters were out in force on priority one salting routes.
In a tweet, Hampshire Highways, said: “Salting update. Our gritters are out this evening on our priority one salting routes as road surfaces temperatures drop below freezing, they’ll be heading out as follows: North – 1900hrs, Central - 1900hrs, South – no action (monitoring).”
When it comes to the need to grit roads and car parks, gritters pay close attention to road surface temperatures including factors such as the angle of the sun at a given point of the winter, the length of the night, and whether there is cloud cover which all affect surface temperatures.
