ANDOVER’S Christmas lights will be switched this coming Sunday, November 28.The Christmas Lights were installed on Monday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 16,

As previously reported, due to safety issues regarding overcrowding in the High Street, Test Valley Borough Council took the decision that the normal ‘switch on’ event will not be happening this year, but a host of events are planned for the weekends leading up to Christmas, with the main weekend being  November 27 and 28 2021.

On Sunday, the lighting installers will conduct a ‘soft switch on’ of most of lights, which will be completed by 4pm.

At 4pm the Town Mayor, Cllr Barbara Long, will oversee a ‘Carols around the Christmas Tree’ event, followed by the tree lights and the lights on the Guildhall being switched on.

The Christmas tree arrived on Saturday, November at 13 1.30am. Andover Town Council officers were in attendance to see it safely installed. In documents noted at a council meeting on November 24, members were reassured that the fencing around the tree, while the same as last year, has “been secured more robustly so will stand up to the elements more successfully this year”.
