AFTER months of planning and speculation the Andover Community Events (ACE) team has finally officially launched Andover’s SoapBox Derby.

On Sunday, May 29, competitors are being encouraged to take on the challenging course which will run down the one-way hill on Hopkinson Way, West Portway Industrial Estate.

All profits will be donated to the local Charity, Andover Mind.

Kevin Rush, of ACE, said: “We felt after the last few years that we have all endured it was important to support mental health wherever we can so Andover Mind was a logical and easy choice.”

Including a series of obstacles from Sparkles Slalom to Bear Behinds Boneshaker, the 450m course is set to challenge any budding designer and builder.

Points, however, will not just be based on speed; the competing karts will also be assessed on their “wow factor” before launching from the purpose-built start ramp.

Kevin added: “We have been astounded at the interest and support we have received for this new event so far and really hope it will become an exciting new addition to Andover’s social calendar.”

Entries are open now and full details can be found on the ACE website: www.andovercommunityevents.com.
