A BUILDING once home to a motorbike dealership is to be partly demolished to make way for new homes.

The site once occupied by Parkroad Motorcycles in Shirley Road will be turned into a new housing development.

It comes as plans for two two-bedroom, one four-bedroom and a three-bedroom home have been given the green light.

Some residents and ward councillor Dave Shields previously raised concerns over the impact of the new homes on traffic and parking.

Residents feared the new development would increase traffic and reduce parking spaces in the area.

Cllr Shields said his concerns came as there was “inadequate provision for off road parking in an area”.

But planning bosses recommended the approval of the plans.

They described the location as “highly accessible” and served by regular bus services.

“Daytime parking controls for the nearby residential streets will further minimise the overspill parking in local streets within 200m of the site to the west Shirley Road,” planners previously said.

The plans were approved by the Planning and Rights of Way Panel at Southampton City Council on December 14.
