ALL LANES were blocked on the A303 eastbound between Cholderton and Thruxton this evening (Monday, January 17), due to three-vehicle incident which has reportedly left six people injured.

Police were called at 4.22pm, to a "three car RTC" on the A303 just East of the Thruxton turning.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson told the Advertiser: "A303 closed Eastbound and traffic diverted on to the A338. The Eastbound on-slip at Thuxton racecourse has also been closed.

"It’s believed six people were involved between the three cars, five of which at this time are thought to be suffering from minor injuries and one more seriously.

"Two people were trapped in one of the cars for some time while the fire service got them out as their car had rolled over."

They continued: "There is likely to be disruption and road closures for some time as the accident is investigated and the road made safe. The vehicles involved appear be a Citroen C4, a Mercedes A45 and a Mercedes A250.

"Ambulance, fire and police are on scene."

Drivers were warned to expect heavy delays delays from the A338 at Cholderton, with one driver taking to Twitter to describe the queues as "three miles long".

AA Traffic news first recorded the incident at 4.45pm, stating: "Road blocked and queueing traffic due to accident, three vehicles involved on A303 Eastbound from A338 Salisbury Road to Wiremead Lane.

"Affecting traffic between Amesbury and Andover."

It listed delays of 20 minutes, however members of the Hampshire Drivers Facebook group  said they had been "stuck" for as long as an hour.

Police confirmed that the road had reopened at approximately 10.30pm.
