A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy and three other casualties have been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle collision on the A303 near Thruxton on Monday evening (January 17).

Police were called at 4.22pm on Monday, 17 January to reports of a collision involving three vehicles on the A303 eastbound between Thruxton and Cholderton.

The vehicles involved were two Mercedes and a Citreon C4.

Six people were left with injuries, and the road was closed for several hours while officers worked to investigate the incident and make the area safe.

Drivers reported queues three-miles long, and delays of around an hour. The road reopened at approximately 10.30pm.

On Tuesday (January 18), a Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "No serious injuries have been reported at this time, however four people, a 52-year-old woman, a 54-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 4-year-old boy were taken to hospital for treatment and observations."

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to the A303 eastbound at Cholderton at 16:28 on Monday January 18 following a road traffic collision involving three vehicles.

"Crews released two trapped people from one of the vehicles and handed them into the care of ambulance colleagues.

"A further four people had released themselves from their vehicles and were treated at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

"Fire crews from Basingstoke, Andover and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

"The stop message was received at 17:41."

A SCAS spokesperson added: "We were called at 16:19 to the A303 to a collision involving three vehicles.

"We sent to the scene five ambulance crews, critical care car from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, paramedic team leader and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

"They were assessing and treating six patients at the scene, following treatment by all our crews three patients were taken to University Hospital Southampton."
