THE funeral of a much-loved Tesco employee from Andover who was tragically killed while at work is to be held this week.

John Carroll, who worked at the River Way store for 17 years, was assaulted while on shift on July 29 2021.

The 62-year-old was taken to hospital with a severe head injury, and sadly died ten days later.

On October 7 2021 at Winchester Crown Court, Shane Richard Donovan from Andover admitted manslaughter of Mr Caroll. He is due to be sentenced later this year.

Now, Mr Carroll's funeral is to be held to allow family and friends the opportunity to pay their respects.

A customer notice displayed in the store reads: "John Carroll, who sadly passed away in 2021, will be laid to rest on Friday, January 28.

"He was a much-loved friend and Tesco colleague for 17 years."

It continues: "The family have respectfully asked that close family and Tesco colleagues only attend the funeral.

"However, the funeral cars will be passing the front of the store at approximately 9.30am. Please feel free to come and pay your respects with us.

"To recognise his much-loved Everton FC, please wear something blue."
