A DRIVER who was nearly triple the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the road for two years.

Benjamin Stickland, aged 37, of Bulford, was also fined more than £1,000.

Salisbury Magistrates' Court heard that Stickland was arrested in the early hours of January 6, after police were called to a report of someone driving while intoxicated along Rawlinson Road, Bulford.

Officers conducted a roadside breathalyser test, and Stickland recorded 101 micrograms (UG) of alcohol per 100 millilitres.

This is almost three times the legal limit of 35UG.

Appearing before the court on Friday, January 21, Stickland pleaded guilty, resulting in the driving ban and a fine of £1,230.

PC Rachel Avery from Amesbury Community Policing Team said: “We are continuously trying to educate the public about the very real dangers of drink driving and even ran a widely-publicised campaign in the build up to Christmas.

“Those who get behind the wheel while intoxicated, either through alcohol or drugs, not only pose a risk to themselves but also to other road users.

“We hope this proves that we do respond to reports of drink driving and we will use the powers given to us to ensure those who commit offences face justice.”
