A MAJOR Hampshire road was closed this morning due to a collision between two lorries. 

The incident happened on the A34 near Winchester at 4.20am today, Friday, April 29.

The road was closed southbound, from the B3420 to junction 9 of the M3, causing traffic delays. 

It reopened at 7.30am, however one lane southbound remains closed while a fuel spillage is dealt with.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were on the secene. 

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and diversions are in place. 

Romanse traffic service said: "#A34 Southbound - Carriageway CLOSED between #A303 #UpperBullington and A33 Basingstoke Rd #KingsWorthy due to RTI, diversion in place."

Traffic information service Inrix said: "A34 Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident from B3420 to M3 J9 (Winnal roundabout / Winchester North)."

A Romanse update said: "#A34 Southbound - Lane 1 CLOSED between A272/Three Maids Hill #WorthyDown and A33 Basingstoke Rd #KingsWorthy due to an earlier RTI and fuel spillage, delays on approach."
