THERE is now less than a fortnight until residents will gather in Andover for the town’s very first Soapbox Derby event.

Andover Community Events is excited to present the first major SoapBox competition. After months of planning, and the support of more than 30 local businesses in some way or another, the community of Andover are invited to attend, free of charge, for an afternoon of thrills and spills.

With 24 teams entered, each hopefully running twice, it looks to be a fun, family friendly afternoon.

Crowds are invited to attend from 12.15pm on Sunday, May 29, along Hopkinson Way on West Portway Estate.

There will be a market set up with stalls and caterers with the first kart setting off down the obstacle filled track at 1pm.

The road will be closed to all other vehicles from 11am to 7pm on the day.

Spectators will be able to get up close and see the action and even wander the Pit area to see the karts and their teams preparing for the event.

Although free to attend, the SoapBox team urges everyone to bring a few pennies, or use the QR codes on the day, as they try to raise as much money as possible for Andover Mind.

An organising team spokesperson said: “Bring chairs, bring a picnic, bring the family, bring some coins and bring your loudest voices to cheer on the teams as they compete to be crowned the very first Andover SoapBox champion.”
