A WOMAN is opening a salon on the grounds of the school she used to attend.

Hairdresser Julie Roberts is opening a new hair salon on the grounds of The Wellington Academy.

The salon will be called Phase 3 Hair and will open on June 12; it is located in the room that used to be Julie’s tutor room when the school was Castledown School, which previously stood on the site of The Wellington Academy.

The salon will be run by Julie and will offer haircuts for both men and women; alongside this, Julie will also specialise in scalp treatment and therapy for people who have suffered hairloss.

Julie said that scalp treat is going to be her niche: “I don’t think anyone else does that around here.

“I’m going to try to keep my prices as close to mobile prices as I can, not necessarily to compete with other salons, but just to make it affordable for everybody.”

Julie graduated from Castledown School in 1987; the school would later be knocked down, with the building containing Julie’s former tutor room being the only remaining building, and The Wellington Academy constructed in its place.

Julie later went on to attend an adult course at the Academy, earning her hair dressing qualifications in 2012; she would go on to use her qualification to establish herself as a mobile hairdresser.

Julie would later contact The Wellington Academy ask what was going on with the old school building; the school offered Julie the room to use as a salon.

Julie said: “I feel like, I’ve just turned 50, I’ve achieved what I wanted to do from where it all started back in the day.

“I feel very nostalgic going back there, especially since that was the only part of the original school they didn’t knock down, which just happens to be my tutor room.”

Julie said that she hopes that the salon will be a place where members of the community can come together and expressed interest in possibly getting involved in fundraising projects.

Julie said: “I really want to create a real community hub up there.

“It’s going to have a very chilled, relaxed atmosphere, and I want it to be a safe space as well, so if anybody feels that they need some where to escape to, they are always welcome no questions asked.”

Julie is excited to open the salon, saying: “It was always my dream to have my own salon and, I never thought it would become a reality, there have been hurdles along the way, but I’m living my dream!”

Customers will be able to book an appointment with Julie by either calling or emailing her.

The Wellington Academy is located near Ludgershall; it offers teaches students in years 7-13.
