A village has been decorated in preparation for the Jubilee by a group of yarn bombers.

Hurstbourne Tarrant has been decorated by Hurstbourne Tarrant Village Yarn Bombers in preparation for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Yarn bombing is a form of street art that employs colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn.

The decorations include a railing adorned with knitted mice holding bunting, knitted flags wrapped around posts, knitted depictions of the crown jewels, as well as a post box topper depicting a representation of The Queen standing alongside a Grenadier Guard.

The creations have been arranged so they can be viewed whilst heading through Hurstbourne Tarrant on the 343.

The knitted creations have been made and displayed by the Hurstbourne Tarrant Village Yarn Bombers, a group started by Rachel Curd.

Rachel started the Yarn Bombers after the success of her yarn bomb commemorating Sir Captain Tom Moore and other fallen soldiers which she finished and displayed ahead of Remembrance Day 2021.

She said: “It’s just a little group of ladies that I started.

“I started doing the post box on my own, and then we went ‘Oh, we could do the bollards as well’, and extending each time we do it.

“I started in October, as I did a yarn bomb of Captain Tom in honour of Remembrance, and it’s sort of taken off from there.”

The group is quite small with only a few members, but despite this the group has remained passionate.

Rachel said: “There are 5 or 6 of us that have been doing different things all throughout the year.

“We do it to try and make the village smile.

“I think we all enjoy doing it to give everybody else pleasure

“Everyone seems to be excited to see what the next thing is we all do.”

The Yarn Bombers have previously decorated Hurstbourne Tarrant to celebrate Easter and Christmas and have plans to create more decorations for the village as the year progresses.

Rachel said that she wants to keep future plans secret for now, so to not spoil the surprise of what the next Yarn Bombers project is.
