The 16-year-old was then arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Officers were in the area following an increase in thefts from motor vehicles which has caused “annoyance and misery” to the community.

A spokesperson from Southampton Cops said: “Damage to vehicles, loss of property, increased premiums for all of us and the invasion of someone into our personal spaces.

“Please do not hesitate to report anything suspicious or out of character happening in your community.

“The more we know the better the picture we can develop of what is going on in your area and crimes being committed.

“We aim to be in the right place at the right time, you can help with telling us what you see and hear.”

People are urged to keep motor vehicles locked at all times when not in use and to close windows all the way up and keep anything valuable out of sight.
