THIEVES were spotted targetting registration plates in the Alresford area.
Hampshire police held extra patrols over the weekend on Saturday July 3 and Sunday July 2 in residential areas in a bid to catch the criminals after suspicious activity was reported.
A post from Winchester Police said: "Anyone struggling to sleep in Alresford may have noticed myself and colleagues completing patrols in the early hours of the morning, specifically in residential areas.

"This is due to information sent to police regarding theft of registration numbers from vehicles in the immediate area. Thankfully, there was nothing sighted tonight.
"If on review of your CCTV/digital doorbell you notice something odd or an unwelcome guest, report it to us on 101, or via our online portal at https://orlo.uk/aplyK.
"Your footage can help complete the bigger picture, and help us identify those involved."
