A SERIOUS crash shut a busy Hampshire road.

Police said a five-car crash at midday on Sunday caused traffic delays.

Officers are now calling for witnesses to the crash in Eastern Road, Portsmouth, to come forward.

The arterial route was shut in both directions but has since reopened.

A police tweet said: "Officers closed the Eastern Road, Portsmouth in both directions this afternoon due to a serious five car RTC at midday.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to contact 101 quoting 44220264854. The road is now re-opened, thank you for your patience whilst we dealt with this incident."
