HAMPSHIRE police have made four arrests after several people were injured by BB pellets in Ryde and Sandown yesterday.

Officers were alerted after pellets were fired from a silver-coloured Ford Fiesta at around 10.30pm.

Four people, including two teenagers from Sandown were left with minor injuries to their faces.

A car was subsequently stopped in Marymead Close, Ryde, and four people arrested.

Two Ryde men aged 18 and 20, a 19 year-old Newport man and a 17-year-old Ryde girl were held on suspicion of possessing a blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, possessing a controlled Class B drug, possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and assault causing actual bodily harm.

A 19 year-old Newport man was arrested on suspicion of driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

A police spokesman said: "All four remain in custody at this time.

"We are aware from our initial enquiries that more people have been hurt by BB pellets during this incident and are keen to hear from them along with any other witnesses."
