A RESIDENT in Andover has been left “absolutely fuming” after a tap was left to leak for more than a week, wasting water.

Lynda Darleen, 69, who lives in Shepherd’s Lodge retirement village, spotted the leaking tap outside on Sunday, August 21.

She has since contacted, Stonewater Association regarding the matter.

She said: “I went outside on Sunday (August 14) and you could hear the water and I wondered what it was and then I saw the leaky tap in the car park.

“I immediately phoned up Stonewater to report it.”

As previously reported, a hosepipe ban for much of Hampshire, including Andover, has been put in place by Southern Water.

The restrictions on water use are the result of a particularly dry summer coupled with record-breaking temperatures.

Low water levels in the rivers Itchen and Test have also led to the ban, which is due to remain in place indefinitely.

It is the first time since 2012 that a limit of this kind is imposed in areas across the region.

The ban was introduced last week on Friday, August 5, with further restrictions earmarked for the south east of England and south west Wales later this month.

Lynda added: “I am absolutely furious especially considering the drought that the country is currently facing and the fact people can’t use their hosepipes at the moment."

After the Advertiser contacted Stonewater Association Lynda confirmed the tap has now been fixed.

A spokesperson said: "We're aware of a leaking stop tap at Shepherd Lodge and are sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers.

"Our contractor visited the scheme yesterday (August 15) to investigate the issue and as an interim measure isolated the tap to stop the leak. A plumber will be attending today to replace the tap and complete the repair."

Despite this Lynda has been left fustrated and angry and said "these associations don't listen to residents".

Residents in Andover have reproted other water leaks since the ban has been put in place including a leak on Andover High Street.
