SALISBURY Museum welcomed back the winners of its Summer Story Challenge earlier this year.

Having won the contest, the winners were given the chance to be the museum's curator for the day on Sunday, January 21.

Over the summer, the museum set a challenge asking participants to create a story about an object of their choosing from the collection within the museum.

The story had to include where the object came from, how was it made, who used it and how, and how the object came to be displayed at Salisbury Museum.

Stories could be submitted in a variety of ways, from illustrative storyboards to the more traditional story format.

The museum said: "We had several imaginative, fascinating, and fun entries, which made choosing the winners extremely difficult! This year there were four winners, Alaina produced a fantastic storyboard about the Easton dog skeleton, Poppy’s winning story was a One Page Wonder about our Giant friend Hob Nob, we had a Ten Point Challenge from Lisa on the Old Sarum Leg Shackles, and finally we had another fantastic storyboard from Hannah about the Easton dog skeleton."

Runners up were Anna, who wrote a story on the Swallowcliffe Princess satchel mount, and the meteorite also proved to be a popular choice with both Lily and Callum selecting this fascinating object for their entries.

The museum added: "The winners enjoyed an amazing prize, of being able to ‘be a curator’ for the day. This involved a very special behind-the-scenes tour, in which our winners were treated to exciting glimpses of parts of the museum and collections not usually seen by the public.

"In addition to this, they also enjoyed an exclusive object-handling session with the Director of the museum, Adrian Green. The whole day was highly enjoyable and was a fantastic experience for our prize winners!"

The Summer Story Challenge will be returning this year, with each participant being able to return to the museum for free to find out as much as possible about their chosen object.

More details on updates and details of the challenge will follow in the coming months.
