Village correspondent: Shareen Beswick THE Kimpton Parish Council meeting due to be held at the end of July had to be postponed as only Cllr Richard Hart and Cllr Gordon Verity were able to attend.

However, as nine members of the public had arrived to comment on proposals for naming streets in Kimpton and a planning application, Richard Hart invited them to make their views known.

For the September meeting of the council Cllrs Richard Hart, Trevor Cotterill, Steve Payne and Gordon Verity were present.

The one member of the public present asked if ditches and streams could be cleared and Gordon Verity undertook to advise Hampshire Highways of the problem.

The following topics were then discussed: Neighbourhood watch: A volunteer was being sought to take over from Richard Perry when he relinquishes his role at the end of the year.

Rights of way: Richard Hart would convene a working party to clear the overgrown section of the Ox Drove, and the landowner would be asked to cut back the hedge alongside foot- path 1.

Play area: One person had volunteered to assist with mowing the play area and Gordon Verity also offered his services.

Street names: Following consultation with residents the council agreed that the section of road from the Green to the hall be named Kimpton Lane.

However, there was some confusion about the specific boundary between Kimpton Lane and Deacon Road and this would need to be clarified at the next meeting.

Village plan: Richard Hart would contact the two people who had volunteered to help with a Village Plan and would seek more volunteers via the newsletter. A member of the Thruxton Parish Council would be invited to speak on the subject at the November council meeting.

Appointment of a new clerk: The clerk to the council would be resigning at the end of October. The position had been advertised on village noticeboards.

Three Villages Sports Trust: Steve Payne reported on the recent Thruxton vs Kimpton cricket match which was won by Thruxton. Anyone interested in joining the cricket team was requested to contact Steve Payne.

There had also been a very successful six-a-side veteran's football tournament, which had raised £3,250 for the Rhetts syndrome charity. The tournament was won by the combined Three Villages team.

Broadband access: Gor-don Verity spoke of continuing frustrations with the poor broadband coverage in the village and hoped that Richard Hart could prevail on BT to improve matters.

Sponsored walk: Former councillor and previous chairman, Tony Morris, was congratulated on completing a sponsored coast-to-coast walk and raising £2900 for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.
