A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a man sustained head injuries in a town centre assault in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to Bridge Street at 12.49am this morning and initially closed off a section of the road to conduct enquiries.

The road has since re-opened.
Taxi driver Andy Robson told The Advertiser when he arrived for work in the morning just after 9am, a police cordon was in place from Frango Grill to near the start of the taxi rank.
Mr Robson said: “It was all cordoned off from just forward of the police van but we could still drive down.
“I heard someone got bottled, it must have happened last night.”
A police officer was seen stationed at the entrance of Anton House, a block of flats on Bridge Street this afternoon.
