STUDENTS prepared a three course meal when Wellington Academy opened its doors to the over 55s of Tidworth community area.

Wiltshire Council Tidworth community engagement manager Marc Read and professional chef teacher, Bruce McFarlane came up with the idea of holding a community lunch with 25 diners were treated to a meal which provided students with an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Bruce said “As a society we divide up our communities and our activities by age – young people go to school, older people retire, but I believe a multi-generational, interdependent community that respects everyone is the only way to create an inclusive place to live, where everyone is equally valued."

Tidworth Area Board chairman Chris Williams said: “We were delighted to fund this intergenerational project.

"Bringing members of our community together that would not usually mix, was great to see.

"The students were a credit to themselves, their parents and the school, and I know that all of the diners thoroughly enjoyed both the meal and speaking to the young people in equal measure.”

With the success of the first Wellington Academy community lunch, plans are already in motion for more to follow in the new year.
