A VILLAGE pub has reopened with a new landlady at the helm that may be familiar to some in the area already.

The Badgers Wood, in Wolverton Road, Baughurst, closed its doors earlier this summer.

However, the pub reopened at the end of August with a new landlady at the helm.

A spokesperson from Ei Publican Partnerships, which owns the pub, said: “We are delighted to confirm we have appointed a new publican at the Badgers Wood, Baughurst.

"The pub is now being run by an experienced local licensee Maggie Jordan, who also runs the Pelican, Pamber Heath. Maggie is focused on providing a great community pub and looks forward to welcoming customers old and new.”

The pub's Facebook page noted an array of work done at the venue prior to the reopening to bring it up to standards.

An array of events have already been run at the pub including quiz nights, music evenings and, on Saturday, a barbecue alongside live music.

Last month, The Gazette revealed that up to a fifth of bars and pubs in the borough had closed in just eight years.

Rounded figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that of the roughly 100 public houses and bars operating across Basingstoke and Deane in 2010, 20 had closed by 2017.

Of those, 15 disappeared in the 12 months from 2014 to 2016.
