A FUNERALCARE home’s window display set up for Remembrance Sunday has received a warm welcome.

The window display at the Co-Operative Funeralcare on Buckland Parade, South Ham, was set up for the first time this year.

The display features drums from the Old Basing Corps of Drums, an old army uniform donated by the Royal British Legion and poppies from the neighbouring florist.

Funeral co-ordinator, Julia Wood, who designed the display, said: “I used to play the drums for Royal Legion, so I had contacts there and just came up with the idea that it’d be nice to do as I’ve done there- the drums, the uniform.

“It’s all my design with help of the British Legion for items and the florist next door gave me poppies.”

The reception to the display has been overwhelmingly positive with people telling Julia how much they appreciate the display.

She said: “Loads of people come in, they’ve come in and commented how nice it looks and thanked us for doing it. It gets a lot of attention.”

Julia said this was the first year they had been able to create the display. Some stores created displays last year and when the opportunity was offered to Julia she was very happy to create it,

Along with putting the display in the window, Julia has been collecting donations to go towards this year’s Poppy Appeal.
