A Chineham woman has won an award for managing to lose ten stone in weight.

Through hard work and determination, Kate Scott dropped from 23st 9.5lb to 13st 8.5lb.

She was awarded Chineham's 'loser of the year' at a recent Slimming World meeting.

She said: “I’m proud of being a loser when it feels this good I feel like a new Woman since losing weight – in fact, I look so different that people who I haven’t seen for a while often can’t believe I’m the same person. I have to say though, it’s the change on the inside that’s been the greatest – I’m happier, healthier and much more confident now.”

The 41-year-old joined the Chineham group, in April 2018.

Kate says: “My weight impacted on so many aspects of my life, from struggling to find clothes that I like to fit to not being able to do simple everyday tasks without feeling tired and out of breath. Before I lost the weight I was just existing, now I’m full of life and can do so much more”

Kate’s weight was also putting a huge strain on her health she suffered with chronic back pain and got breathless easily. People who are severely overweight, with a BMI above 30, are more likely to suffer from health problems like coronary heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and cancer, and obesity is linked to a reduction in life expectancy of between seven and nine years.

In Basingstoke and Deane 62.5 per cent of people are so severely overweight that their health is already at risk.

Today Kate’s lost a total of 10st 1lb and gone from a size 24 to a size 12/14. She’s also more active nowadays and regularly goes out jogging which she says she never thought she would do.

The group meets every Thursday at Chineham Village Hall. Call 07966 933994 to find out more.
