The number of cases of coronavirus in Hampshire has doubled in 24 hours.
The number in Hampshire rose from 20 cases on Friday to 41 against a local population of 1,376,316 residents.
Hampshire now has the most amount of cases outside of London.
The UK's figure at the time of writing was 1,140 confirmed cases, including 313 in London. To date, 18 people have recovered from the disease in the UK while 21 people have died.
In Basingstoke, the Gazette is aware of at least six positive Covid-19 cases.
The Gazette has contacted Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for an up-to-date number of cases at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
On Friday, the number of cases was two.
The county council area, which excludes Southampton and Portsmouth, had one of the highest numbers of COVID-19 cases across local authorities in England as of 9am on Saturday, March 14.
The daily update from the authorities said the number of cases across the UK had soared through the one thousand mark to a total of 1,140 cases, a five-fold increase from a week ago.
On Thursday, prime minister Boris Johnson, joined by health and science chiefs at a press conference, confirmed the country had entered the second phase of its action plan to combat the virus – the delay phase.
The following day, all professional football in England was postponed until April and events set to take place the coming weeks have been axed.
