A DOCTOR at Basingstoke hospital has tested positive for Covid-19, a medical source has told the Gazette. 

Staff have been informed that they are allowed to continue to work at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital if they have come into contact with a Covid-19 patient unless they are showing symptoms. 

Hampshire Hospitals said it could not comment due to patient confidentiality but reassured the public they were following the latest guidance from Public Health England. 

One member of staff, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Gazette: "It’s so upsetting to see, if all people are exposed [to the virus] then we are not coping with this well.

“You do wonder are they really helping us? How are they going to protect us from the virus? We know that we are a high-risk, but it would be nice if the NHS could look after us as well because it is difficult for us here”. 

Hampshire Hospitals said they would not confirm or deny this but have reassured the public they are following the latest advice to prevent the spread of the corornavirus.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Hospital said: “In order to protect patient confidentiality, we are unable to release details about anybody who has tested positive for COVID-19. 

“We would like to assure the public that we are following the latest advice from Public Health England in terms of both tracing possible contacts and advising staff to self-isolate”.
