MORE than 5,000 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the UK with more than 1,000 people testing positive in the last 24 hours.
Additionally, 56 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with the death toll rising to 233.
Across the country, there are now 5,018 people who have tested positive for the virus, a rise of 1,035 since yesterday.
It was also revealed that another 31 people in Hampshire have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, with the total now at 138.
It is now the highest upper tier local authority for cases in the UK, overtaking Southwark since yesterday.
The 138 cases does not take into account the unitary areas of Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
93 patients have recovered from the virus.
The statistics are accurate as of 9am this morning.
It comes after the Environment Secretary, George Eustice, called on people to stop stockpiling goods.
He said that there was enough food to go around, whilst NHS England's medical director, Professor Stephen Powis, said that stockpiling food was taking it away from the most vulnerable and NHS workers.
