A date has been revealed for the reopening of Basingstoke's Vue cinema.

The cinema chain - which owns the theatre in Festival Place - has said it will be reopening on Friday, August 21.

This will be welcome news to movie lovers across the county who have gone without a trip to the cinema in almost five months.

A spokesman for Vue said: "Following the successful reopening of 10 sites across the UK, Vue will welcome back the public on Friday, August 21."

They are already promoting tickets for Tenet, a film described as a "blockbuster", directed by Christopher Nolan.

David Sadler, general manager at Vue Basingstoke, said: “We’re really pleased to be preparing to reopen our cinema once again and we look forward to welcoming film fans back soon.

“We’ve been working hard to ensure our site here in Basingstoke meets safety protocols in line with the latest government guidance.”

All film goers will be able to escape to the mind of cryptic filmmaker Nolan in his latest release Tenet, starring John David Washington as the director’s new protagonist.

Alongside Washington are the likes of Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Martin Donovan, Fiona Dourif, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Himesh Patel, Clémence Poésy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.

Vue will also be bringing a number of fan-favourite films back to the big screen, including the Harry Potter series, La La Land and Star Wars.

Tickets are available now at myvue.com.
