A woman is asking for the public's help to cover the cost of her baby niece and nephew's funeral.

Tiny premature twins George and Amelia were born on Saturday at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital but tragically died one hour later.

Their aunt Nicola Meredith, from South Ham, said her sister Jade and brother-in-law Andrew have been left heartbroken and it has caused their world to come "crashing down".

Their death comes after carer Jade and store manager Andrew lost baby Riley in 2018. Nicola said the pair have been trying to conceive for 12 years and have spent "well over" £35,000 so far on IVF.

Jade was taken into hospital at 20 weeks and two weeks later, the twins were born 22 weeks premature. George and Amelia weighed just 404g and 360g respectively.

Nicola, from South Ham, explained: "All their dreams came true when they fell pregnant with twins. The pregnancy wasn't easy, with Jade being on bed rest and off work since the beginning.

"They had a scare at 14 weeks when Jade started bleeding and went into hospital where she was told her cervix was going to open early.

"Jade got to 20 weeks and her waters broke. She stayed in hospital to be monitored and was showing signs of infection which would have been fatal to both the babies and Jade.

"Sadly, at 22 weeks and one day, Jade went into labour and gave birth to George and Amelia who survived for just over an hour then their world came crashing down again," Nicola said.

The care worker said she is desperate to help her sister, who has been unable to work as she has been in hospital, and said she wants to help cover the cost of the funeral and the couple's mortgage.

She added: "Jade and Andrew are now planning their babies' funerals which no parent should have to do once, let alone twice. If anyone can donate anything to help with the costs, that would be amazing.

"Jade isn't receiving any income at the moment due to being self-employed."
