DRIVERS travelling along Thornford Road between Crookham and Headley may remember Kathy's face during lockdown.

The 80-year-old walked for two miles every day to sit at the top of the road to wave at drivers, come rain or shine.

Michaela Riley, the founder of Basingstoke charity Spotlight who delivered thousands of emergency parcels across North Hampshire and West Berkshire, previously said that Kathy had "cheered" her up, every time she drove past.

She previously said: "This lady really made me smile while we were out sorting food parcels. Sat in the cold at the side of the road waving at all the drivers going past."
"What a kind-hearted lady who deserves to be recognised."

Andover Advertiser: James Mead has created a fundraising page for Kathy James Mead has created a fundraising page for Kathy

Fans of Kathy's have now set up a fundraising page after learning that her oil tank has failed.

She needs a new one to keep her warm this winter but is struggling to afford it.
James Mead, who set up the fundraising page, writes: "We wondered if the community would like to thank her for her effort, big smiles and waves and return the community spirit by helping her to stay warm this winter. Anything you can give will show her that she is appreciated. Please help this lovely lady."To donate, visit https://bit.ly/2G0luvq
