No new coronavirus cases were recorded in Basingstoke and Deane in the past 24 hours, it has been revealed.

Hampshire Hospitals have confirmed that there are currently no patients with coronavirus in Basingstoke hospital.

Daily figures also show no new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Basingstoke in the past 24 hours.

Government data shows that the total number of people that have tested positive for Covid-19 in the borough is approaching 1,000, with 995 people having a positive test returned since early March.

The latest figures come as good news as cases are rising rapidly across the rest of the country.

The UK R rate is between 1 and 1.2 which means that on average every 10 people infected will infect between 10 and 12 other people.

However there has been concern that no new cases have been recorded as, local people have struggled to book coronavirus tests over the last several days.

In recent days, The Gazette has reported on the struggles of accessing Covid-19 tests.

On Monday, September 14 a Basingstoke primary school headteacher almost had to close her school through lack of testing.

Maria Miller has since raised her concerns with Department of Health Ministers as Basingstoke residents continue to struggle to get coronavirus tests slots.

The Basingstoke MP said that in Basingstoke and Deane more than 3000 tests were accessed in the past week.

In the neighbouring town Andover there have also been no new cases recorded in the past 24 hours and no patients in Andover hospital with coronavirus.

UK wide 3,991 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours and 20 people have died.
