TRIBUTES are pouring in for a man who died at a Basingstoke building site yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to Wiltshire Crescent, off Old Kempshott Lane, yesterday (February 15) to reports of an incident.

The employee, Scott Grimes, from Aldershot, was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

Devastated loved ones have since shared memories and messages of loss on social media.

A fund-raising appeal was also launched to support his family through the sudden loss.

Kevlar Mcallister wrote: “Another Aldershot light turned out to soon but yours will always and forever be shining brightly. What an absolute kind legend of a man you were and bringing the barrel of laughs to the pub, will be missed by so many in Aldershot if not nearly the whole of Aldershot!

“Remember you asking for a hockey stick for your Finley, he will grow up knowing what a great man you were Thoughts are with everyone. RIP Grimesy and until we meet again party hard up there fella.”

Another friend , Dan Band, said: “Gone but never to be forgotten! Aldershot miss you Scott Grimes but we will never ever forget you! Until Wednesday my brother.”

Francesco Covelli added: “I can’t believe I’m writing this but today I lost one of the closest people in my life! Scott Grimes you are and always will be one of my closest mates. So please wherever you are keep partying and don’t ever change! Love ya mate, sending my love to all his family and friends.”

Michael Carter wrote: “Absolutely in shock... got no words mate. Absolutely a gentleman. You’re such a great man that will be mightily missed by many, travelled all over the world together and had so many more plans. Rest easy buddy.”

A tribute message was posted on the Aldershot Town Football Club Fans Group was written by Chris Trodd who said: “As some of you may or may have not seen today Aldershot lost a proper Aldershot boy today who will be missed by many may you RIP Scott Grimes.”

Kurtis Reeve posted: “Cannot believe the news today, no words can express how I and others are feeling right now, such a top top fella taken far too soon. I miss the days of me you and Alan walking to his house belting out king Billy's on the wall and the wee messages and pictures you’d send me every old firm game! You'll never be forgotten! RIP Scott Grimes! See you on the flip side.”

Connor Lally also wrote about traveling with football fan Scott: “Such quality memories going to the Liverpool games together can’t believe it, had many more country’s to travel watching the reds boss Europe. Rest easy up there  YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE.”

Leave your tribute hereMy brother-from-another-mother extraordinaire, fellow Vampowl (in joke) and general all round solid gold human being. Scott was wonderful. He was funny and easy to talk to. He's my brother-in-law's brother which may make him sound like no real relation to me - but that's not the case at all. Him, Ashleigh, Finley, Erica, Timmy - all family to me - and as a family we've been devastated, but I am blown away by my brother-in-law, Ian's, strength and compassion at a time so utterly heartbreaking. The outpouring of love from his friends and the community is a true testament to the sort of man Scott was. I love him. I'll miss his presence. Love to everyone who knew him ♥️♥️♥️

Leave your tribute hereCouldn’t believe it when I heard the news you had gone, it didn’t seem real and I didn’t believe it! I haven’t been able to stop thinking about your’s and Ashleigh’s families since. I’ve known you since school and last saw you nearly a year ago before lockdown. Leave your tribute hereThinking of Scott’s family at this tragic time! I’ve personally not seen Scott since leaving school, but have been reading the lovely memories his close family and friends have of him and it’s exactly how I remember him. Bubbly, charming, confident! It’s heartwarming to see the support his friends and the community are trying to provide to his family at this very difficult time and it’s all clearly testament to the lovely and caring man he was. Lots of love to his family and friends at this time. RIP Scott.
