THIS week the Prime Minister announced the lockdown exit roadmap which detailed the earliest England's pubs could open.

Those desperate to enjoy a nice cold pint with friends will be pleased to know beer gardens could reopen after Easter.

On April 12 England could see restrictions on pubs, non essential retail and gyms lift significantly.

Progress on the next steps out of lockdown will depend on meeting four tests: the success of the vaccine rollout, evidence of vaccine efficacy, an assessment of new variants, and keeping infection rates below a level that could put unsustainable pressure on the NHS.

If these four tests are met, from April 12, outdoor hospitality can reopen, including pubs and restaurants - with the rule of six or a larger group from two households.

Customers will not have to buy a substantial meal to have an alcoholic drink but seating is compulsory when eating or drinking.

Here are some great pub gardens to visit when restrictions lift:

The Bolton Arms

The 15th century building is situated in a conservation area of outstanding beauty in the heart of Old Basing.

This pub is less than 2 miles from Basingstoke town centre and is surrounded by riverside walks, open fields tennis courts and a children’s recreation ground.

Bartons Mill

It is a haven for walkers and cyclists with lovely routes found along the trout filled River Test.
