AN interactive map using government data has revealed the number of Covid deaths in Basingstoke areas.
The interactive map, created by the Office for National Statistics, allows you to see the number of deaths registered from March to December 2020 where Coronavirus was recorded as the main cause on the death certificate.
Tracking deaths across Basingstoke since the pandemic began, the size of the circle on the map represents the number of deaths.
Neighbourhoods are broken down via Middle layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs), a system designed to improve the reporting of small areas with an average population of 7,200.
As local data is only available up to January, the numbers of deaths in the map will not reflect the latest trends. In particular, patterns may not reflect those seen in the most recent case numbers, as a death from COVID-19 will be reported some time after a positive test.
It revealed Popley has had the highest number of Covid deaths in the borough with 22, 10 of which happened in January.
A total of 19 Covid deaths have been recorded in Viables, a staggering 17 of those occurred in January.
Meanwhile, Hatch Warren, Chineham, Daneshill and Little Basing all recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths with each area having recording two deaths since March.
A total of 278 have died in the borough within 28 days of a positive test.
Latest figures show a total of 7,799 people in Basingstoke have tested positive for the virus since the start of the pandemic.
