A 35-year-old man who was fined £23,000 for five fly-tipping offences around Nursling and Baddesley has been ordered to pay another £540.

Mitchell Cooper, of Hillyfields in Nursling, was found to have fly-tipped waste including two TV sets and bags of waste at the Broadlands Estate in Romsey on April 20 last year.

He was ordered to pay a total of £23,072.75 in fines and costs after being sentenced at Southampton Magistrates Court in January.

In a Facebook post, Cllr Nick Adams-King, deputy leader of Test Valley Borough Council, said Cooper tried to appeal his sentence on Friday April 16 but was ordered to pay an extra £540 instead.

Cllr Adams-King said: “When I say that fly-tipping in our beautiful borough is not acceptable, I absolutely mean it. Test Valley investigates every single offence that takes place – and we will always seek to prosecute if we have enough evidence.

“My message to Mr Cooper and those of his ilk is that if you don’t want to pay the fine, don’t commit the crime!”
