THE Cameron Bespolka Trust has announced the theme of its upcoming art competition for primary school pupils.

‘British Wildlife’ will be the focus of the contest, following on from the last two successful themes of ‘Birds in Winchester’ and ‘Birds in Flight’.

Young naturalists and artists, from the age of 7 to 13 and who attend a school in the city, are invited to create an A4 piece of art.

It can be made using various media, painting, textiles or drawing. Unlike the previous two years, the competition is not limited to birds alone.

The competition is run by the Cameron Bespolka Trust with Pilgrims’ School and aims to give children the opportunity to use their artistic talent and see what British wildlife inspires them most.

A spokesperson from the charity said: “Observing wildlife is a fabulous way to appreciate the wonder of nature.

“The Cameron Bespolka Trust is a charity that was set up in the memory of Cameron who was a pupil at the Pilgrims School.

“Cameron’s love for the natural world and his ambition to encourage others to share that love has been the inspiration for the Charity.

“We aim to create projects to help connect children with nature and to inspire them to love and appreciate wildlife and nature.”

The deadline for all entries is February 28.

All winners, runners-up and commended entrants will be invited to attend the prize giving ceremony on March 11 at the Pilgrims’ School.

All entries will be displayed around the school.

The trust, which was set up after 16-year-old Cameron Bespolka died in an avalanche, now has planning permission to set up ‘Cameron’s Cottage’ in the heart of the New Forest.

This will renovate a derelict cottage within the woodlands and provide a place for young people to connect with and study the wildlife.
