THE two-week Winchester Round Table special collection of food donations in aid of the Winchester Basics Bank was completed last Friday, writes Aaron Griffin.

The result was a great success according to Basics Bank chairman, Mike Whitehead: “Donations from the whole community have been massive and the work put in by the Round Table team to collect them with their sleigh touring the streets has been excellent.”

The whole team at the Basics Bank would like to thank the people of Winchester that have donated generously and engaged with the Round Tables’ collections. Overall more than 400 crates of food and hygiene products were collected.

Mr Whitehead said: “The Winchester Round Table members have been working very hard and were very well organised.”

The collections were taken straight to the Basics Bank on the evening they were collected, with trustees and volunteers ready to sort through the vast donations.

Mr Whitehead said: “This was a great example of community and volunteers coming together.”

The Basics Bank are no longer short on supplies and are ready for those in need to come and make use of their service.

“We are a non-judgemental service and we want people to come forward and make use of this community resource”.

Any local person in need of food should go to www.winchesterbasicsbank.co.uk

Basics Banks help each other out so no donations have been wasted with some from the collections going to the Southampton Basics Bank and snacks sent to the RHCH.

Glen Taylor, member of the Winchester Round Table said: “From an idea on a Friday night to going live on Monday the collections went extraordinarily well.”
